Antique/Vintage Caged & Pointy Flower Frog
A flurry of patents followed the metal flower frog popularity, all claiming to save the housewife time and allow her to quickly and creatively arrange flowers. Many other types of flower frogs are art pieces with holes for flower stems and a container for holding water. The origin of the term "flower frog" is unknown. "Frog" was a term for a holder for flowers in the 1968 Random House Dictionary of the English Language.
Sotherby auctioned off Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' collection of flower frogs in 1996 for $4,025.
Antique and vintage flower frogs have become a hot collectible over the past 15 years. Martha Stewart somewhat started the interest in 1996 through an article in her Living magazine and by demonstrating wonderful arrangements using antique frogs on her TV show.
