Take Inventory: Plan ahead and make sure you have enough place settings, stem ware, napkins, and other table-top items to be sure there is enough for guests. Be sure linen is stain free and iron linen ahead of time. Plan centerpiece & table decorating ahead.
Purchase wine, liquor, firewood ahead of Time.
Send invitations out now for people to mark their calendars ahead of time.
Send out an email for address and phone updates for your Christmas Cards.
Plan holiday menu in advance.
Clean oven in preparation for the Holidays.
Organize Pots and Pans.
Clean out pantry and refrigerator so that there is plenty of room for the abundance of food for the holidays.
Replace baking soda in refrigerator.
Order Turkey.
Pot amaryllis & hyacinth now for Christmas.
Update Christmas Card Mailing List now so that contact information for sending out invitations is correct.
Make room in the freezer. Discard food that is expired or freezer burned.
Organize pantry; things you know you won't eat or prepare, donate to food pantry. Make sure cans are not expired.
Before guests arrive:
1. sweep out fireplace & vacuum fireplace screens
2. wipe insides of medicine cabinets
3. vacuum floors, baseboards, windows and sills
4. dust ceiling fans
5. wipe switch plates
6. wipe telephones before and after
7. wipe kitchen ceiling
8. wipe down refrigerator, microwave & recycle bins
9. vacuum upholstery
10. Launder machine washable rugs
11. wipe hand prints from windows, walls, doors especially around door knobs & light plates
12. clean toilet
13. Check out bar to be sure everything is in check
14. light scented candles
15. Turn on soothing music
16. Have a drink; you've earned it.
