Update Personal Calendar: Make sure to transfer birthdays, anniversaries and special events to your new-year calendar.Write & Mail Thank You Cards: It's important to get them out no later than mid month.
New Year & New Order: If your mail has gotten out of hand this past year, start the new year off right. Set up an effective mail station in your kitchen or on a desk. Make sections such as: "Read", "Take Immediate Action", "File", etc.. If the old way was not effective, try something new.
Schedule Annual Appointments: Schedule your annual check ups for medical, dental, and veterinary for the pets too.
Start Organizing for Tax Time: Be on the look-out for End-of-year statements and W-2s. Set them aside in one folder for the accountant. Don't procrastinate! Start now. By law, your employer should have your W-2 ready by the end of January 31st. If not, stay on top of them to get it to you asap. Make your appointment for the accountant now so that you push yourself to be ready and so that you get it done early.
Mulch Christmas Tree: Criss Cross branches that you cut off and place in flower beds for the remainder of winter.
Store Away Christmas Decorations: If you don't have original boxes for ornaments, use styrofoam cups or tissue paper to wrap each individual ornament to protect it. Try not to store in attic or basement. These locations can do harm to them due humidity and temperature change.
Get to the Gym, Weight Watchers, Stop Smoking: It takes over 30 days to break old habits. Make a schedule for the new year and stick to it. Don't give up. Try, try again and again and again until you get it right. Your well being is the greatest gift you can give to yourself for the New Year!

Clean Freezer: Clean out expired items and wash down freezers.
Start Ordering Seeds from Catalogs: Start planning your garden now. Place your order while supplies are abundant.
Make Your New Year's Visualization Board: Use photos, magazine clippings, anything to remind and inspire you to attain your new goals for the new year. A visualization board is a great reminder to look at daily. Make it pretty and motivating!
Get Wood Floors Done: Have them stripped and resealed and buffed. Have this done once a year. To continue maintaining floor, vacuum and then clean polyurethane floor with a damp mop and a mild cleanser.
Test Batteries in Smoke Dectectors: Also check Carbon Monoxide Detector and appliances and change if necessary.
New Year;New You: Start off on the right foot and get organized and clean out those closets. If they have gotten messy through the year, clean them out and start fresh for the New Year. I know this sounds crazy but sort items in color order. It's so easy to find something when you're looking for that one white shirt.
Check Insurance Policies & License & Inspection Sticker: Make your appointments if necessary or mark when it will be necessary on your calendar. Make updates on your policies if necessary.
Check Gym Memberships, Passports, Car Registration for Renewal Dates: Take action if necessary and mark your calendar
Plan Your Vacation Now: Be sure to ask for time off now and submit your request at work.
New Year; New Budget: Make a master copy of all your monthly expenses with columns to list amounts due under monthly columns. Leave master copy blank and make a new copy every month to keep track of your expenses. See if you need or can cut back in certain areas if necessary. It takes a greater effect on you when you look at it written down. In today's economy we can all make necessary adjustments.
